James David Manning

Manning came to public attention in the 2008 presidential election after ATLAH posted several sermons of his that were harshly critical of Democratic candidate Barack Obama on the website YouTube.[8][9] Among other accusations, he called Obama a "good House Negro" in one sermon[10] while in another he referred to Obama as "trash" due to circumstances surrounding his mixed race heritage and accused him of being a "pimp" (pimping "white women and black women") and "long-legged mack daddy," and an "emissary of the devil", citing the viral video "I Got a Crush... on Obama".[11] He stated that Obama "has the cadence of an Islamic person,"[12] and he called Obama's mother "trash" for becoming pregnant by a black man out of wedlock.[13] Manning revisited this latter issue during a press conference at the National Press Club on 8 December 2008: "Generally the most noble of white society choose not to intercourse sexually with African men. So it's usually the trashier ones who make their determinations that they're going to have sex."[14]

Manning defended his sermons in an interview on Fox News, saying that "we also have to talk about his character."[15] He compared TV personality Oprah Winfrey, who supported Obama's campaign, to the Whore of Babylon,[9] the "Queen of the Universe", and an Antichrist.[16]

The sermons drew the attention of the Americans United for Separation of Church and State, who filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service objecting to alleged violations of laws granting tax-free status to churches on condition that they refrain from certain forms of political activity.

DNA proves Texas man innocent nine years after he died in prison

DNA proves Texas man innocent nine years after he died in prison

New DNA tests prove that Timothy Cole died in a Texas prison while serving time for a rape he didn’t commit, according to papers filed Friday by his attorneys at the Innocence Project of Texas. Cole was convicted of raping a Texas Tech student in 1986 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Nine years later, another inmate, Jerry Johnson, sent a letter to the Lubbock court claiming that he – and not Cole – had committed the rape. Johnson’s claims, however, fell on deaf ears, and Cole died of asthma in prison at age 38.

But Johnson’s family didn’t give up. In 2007, the Innocence Project of Texas took on the case and began investigating. Biological evidence from the crime was located in the Lubbock County archives. DNA test results received last months proved that Johnson was indeed the perpetrator of the crime.

And now Jeff Blackburn, the lead counsel at the Innocence Project of Texas, is seeking to have Cole’s record cleared.

"If we're going to live in a society where the court system operates in a fair way, then it's got to do it across the board," Blackburn said. "They have a right to have a court of record tell them that their son was innocent."

Read a three-part story and watch a video with Cole’s family on the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Texas has more DNA exonerations than any other state in the U.S., with 32 uncovered so far. Several, like Cole’s, are pending final court determination. When there’s more news in Cole’s case, we’ll post it here.

Captain Kangaroo- Childhood Memories

Captain Kangaroo is a children's television series which aired weekday mornings on the American television network CBS from 1955 until 1984. After a year of absence, in 1986 it moved to public television when the American Program Service (now American Public Television, Boston) distributed the program with some newly-produced segments which were integrated into reruns of past episodes. That version of the series ended in 1993.

The show was conceived and the title character played by Bob Keeshan, who based the show on "the warm relationship between grandparents and children." Keeshan was the original Clarabell the Clown on The Howdy Doody Show when it aired on NBC.

It had a loose structure, built around life in the "Treasure House" (later renamed "The Captain's Place"), where the Captain (whose name came from the big pockets in his coat) would tell stories, meet guests and indulge in silly stunts with regular characters, both humans and puppets. The show was live for its first four years, and was in black-and-white until 1968. In 1983, CBS shortened the hour-long show to a half-hour and moved it to an earlier time-slot. It was cancelled by CBS at the end of 1984.

In the TV season of 1997–1998, an All New Captain Kangaroo was attempted by Saban Entertainment. John McDonough played the Captain. It was shot in Tampa, Florida. Keeshan was invited to appear as a special guest called "The Admiral," but after seeing sample episodes, he declined to appear or have any association with the new incarnation. It ran for one season and inspired a spinoff, Mister Moose's Fun Time.
